Remember, green energy isn’t cheap

A recent guest column perfectly illustrates the mentality of global warming alarmists ('Covering climate change deniers is bad policy,” Feb. 4). Unable to win the argument, they refuse to debate the issue, denigrate skeptics as deniers and want free speech for themselves, but not for others.
Alliant Energy is requesting a $1.8 billion rate increase over 30 years to save $60 million per year on fuel costs. The greenies no longer even pretend green energy reduces costs. They now want to rationalize it by claiming it creates jobs.
This is a colossal misallocation of resources. How often do we hear that we must invest more in infrastructure, health care, education, low-income housing and more?
Replacing cheap energy with expensive intermittent energy, and subsidizing it with a $24 per Megawatt hour tax credit for wind energy when the wholesale price of electricity is around $40 per Megawatt hour, is economic malpractice, and the people who should be sued are the people promoting it.
