Remember, Branstad raised sales tax as governor
The Gazette Opinion Staff
May. 25, 2010 12:42 am
The Gazette reported May 19 that Iowans for Tax Relief endorses Terry Branstad for governor.
Please notice that the article refers to it as a “net” tax decrease. They say “net' because, in 1983 and 1992, Branstad approved sales tax increases.
I recall that when he was campaigning for his first term, he would not comment on whether he intended to raise the sales tax, but did so shortly after he took office.
The short Gazette article failed to mention that getting the endorsement might have a lot to do with Branstad's campaign manager being a former president of Iowans for Tax Relief.
