Regulations are not the primary problem

Columnist Adam Sullivan's insistence on government regulation somehow being the significant factor in our country's response to this coronavirus pandemic is more realistically just a drop in the bucket, if it's a problem at all. While reactive and ineffective rules for how many ounces of liquid we can carry on a plane might contribute to the problem, the delayed and disingenuous and inept response that continues by our government far outweighs some rule on a book somewhere.

Regulations didn't cause Donald Trump to ignore warnings. Regulations didn't cause him to place his political aspirations ahead of our country's health. And regulations didn't cause him to put in de facto authority his unqualified son-in-law. I absolutely agree with Adam that this debacle should make us realize what is really important, but it is the dearth of expertise and leadership at the top levels of government that forced us into this mess.
