Regulate tanning beds for teens’ safety
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Feb. 20, 2014 2:27 pm
I respectfully take exception to The Gazette's editorial (“Tanning beds: Another law won't work,” Feb. 14) on the regulation of tanning bed use by teens.
Like smoking, these beds appeal to a young person's vanity. Like smoking, these beds are addictive. Like smoking, these beds develop into an expensive habit. And like smoking, these beds can cause cancer.
Teens are not yet wholly equipped to always make rational decisions, regardless of what they are told. It is, thus, not unreasonable to want and expect the bill to pass for their own protection as well as their parents' peace of mind.
