Regents made mockery of hiring process

To the editor:
When a state board voted to scrap the 4-inch topsoil rule some months ago they acted in the best interest of special interests rather than Iowa's citizens.
Then the Board of Regents made a mockery of a hiring process designed to be fair and open. Bruce Harreld appears to be a capable man, but developing trust and credibility needed to lead the University of Iowa will be difficult given the sordid hiring process.
