Regarding race and forgiveness

Regarding Sen. Harry Reid's comment:
I've believed that when race becomes a factor in virtually any subject – and push comes to shove - there are virtually no differences between most white Republicans and white Democrats in how they react to/treat African-Americans. Though some will at least say the “right” words and talk the walk, when it comes time to walk the walk, they virtually all revert to the status quo.
I can understand why at least some in the African-American community can accept Sen. Reid's apology but have not previously accepted most apologies from Republicans. Imagine, if you will, two people say what can be, or is, derogatory about you. One is from a friend/ally, the other from someone not a friend and with whom you have often been diametrically opposed. You should be able to understand why accepting apologies from friends/allies are not unusual and not accepting from other is not only not hypocritical but is based upon historical interaction.
Besides, unfortunately, history strongly suggests that Reid's comments were spot on. President Obama's lighter skin color, his non-threatening manner and his “polished” speech worked to his favor. A darker-skinned, threatening, larger black male would not have become president.
