Redistribution of wealth is a political strategy
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 12, 2010 12:14 am
The Barack Obama-Nancy Pelosi-Harry Reid troika and other redistributions in the Politburo on the Potomac appear to believe that the successful have either unjustly earned their money at the expense of others or that they were simply lucky. They don't really believe that the rich are just lucky. They just promote that message to increase the sense of envy.
Redistribution is, of course, not a poverty-fighting strategy, it's a calculating political strategy. It creates predictable constituencies for future election cycles. Who would vote for the candidate who might turn off or even slow down the faucet of free money?
This is one of the reasons the framers of the Constitution opposed such practices, it inevitably corrupts the system, something that seems not to concern our redistribution legislators.
