I am writing to express my opposition to the current budget reconciliation bill before the Senate. This bill turns biblical values upside down by rewarding the wealthiest Americans with tax cuts while brutalizing the most vulnerable among us with massive cuts to critical social programs.
It is immoral and cruel to deprive people of health care, access to affordable food, and educational opportunities to satisfy a few individuals who have more money than they could spend in a lifetime.
Tens of millions of people will suffer if this budget advances. This budget is a direct violation of Jesus' teachings to love and care for the poor.
Cuts to essential social services like SNAP, CHIP, and Medicaid will be devastating to vulnerable communities, especially women, children, and youth.
Tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans should not be prioritized over food and health care.
Billions of funding for immigration enforcement will target the vulnerable immigrant and refugee community.
The federal budget should prioritize, not devastate vulnerable communities. As a person of faith, I am asking others to stand up against this cruel budget. Instead of cutting basic needs programs, Congress should focus on helping families who need support. Our IOWA Senators must VOTE NO on any budget package that cuts basic needs programs.
