Rebellion against authority isn’t new

To the editor:
A letter writer says we're 'experiencing an increasing wave of rebellion against authority in our country” starting with 'rebellion against God's authority,” then spreading 'to rebellion against all authority; including police and schools and courts” ('Authority is ignored and disrespected,” Dec. 15).
Could this be a long-lost letter from King George III of England? That monarch (like so many kings, popes, czars and dictators) thought his authority came from God - until a group of very rebellious American patriots proved him wrong.
Our country is based on rebellion from unjust authority - even (read the Declaration of Independence) to the point of dissolving government.
Every Fourth of July we celebrate rebellion. Death to tyrants and fascists everywhere!
