Reasons for owning a home have changed
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I must have been sleeping when (the primary reason for) owning your own house was changed from a good home to an investment property.
I remember when buying a house was to make a big life choice. It was something to build your family in and to hold out the cold. Your family grew up here and grandchildren played here. You weren't carrying on value so much as it was yours and no one could kick you out. It was your castle!
Yes, you want to buy the house at the best price, but price was not as important as schools, parks and churches close by.
Now, no one looks to own the property long, it's all about money.
Another of this country's star points is gone.
