Reader upset with city snowplows

To the editor:
After the snow event on Dec. 27, the Cedar Rapids streets department left snow plow blades about 5 inches away from the cement, so we were left with 3 to 4 inches of packed snow and ice. The main streets were worn off because of heavy traffic, but the side streets were like driving over the worst gravel roads with ruts and slippery waves.
On Jan. 6 the snow plow came and plowed one lane only for us to use. On Jan. 7 the snow plow came through and plowed the other side. We are senior citizens so we paid to have our driveway shoveled (on Dec. 27). So 10 days after the event we had to shovel very heavy snow and ice (very, very heavy). On Jan. 8 the plow came through again. Are you done yet? I look forward to having the alignment fixed on our car and I sincerely hope no one got hurt shoveling snow after nine, 10 and 11 days.
How long does the city have to clear snow? We would be fined if we left 3 to 4 inches of packed snow and ice on our sidewalk.
