Reader questions party fundraising plea

How stupid are the political parties?
I'm getting email messages that want me to give money to a candidate in a Pennsylvania congressional election. If I give, the political party promise to match my gift four-fold.
But, if they can match my gift four-fold, why in the world do they need my money in the first place?
