Kudos to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. At the recent Southeast Iowa Synod Assembly, a resolution was passed supporting action to address gun violence in our society.
It reads, in part:
Affirming that we do not reject gun ownership, but that we call for communicating with our elected officials about better management of responsible gun ownership.
Calling for practical measures of background checks, legislation regarding the manufacture and sales of weapons not used for hunting or sport, and considering the mental health of those seeking to purchase weapons.
Calling for civil, respectful conversation, prayers for changes in hearts, courage to love others as ourselves, to love people above things and ideals, to respond in love to those who are hurting, and to challenge our society's broader issues with violence.
