Reader offers solution to ‘unknown’ calls, mail

Most of us are irritated with unidentified phone calls, even if we have caller ID. These calls often are trying to sell us something we don't want and have little credibility, even if we are interested. They also are often are recordings rather than live humans.

Our 'snail” mail is full of unwanted sales promotions, sent in envelopes that do not identify the sender. Our computer mail is stuffed with unwanted opinions, false news and sales pitches, which we open without the sender being identified. What an intrusion of our privacy!

Why is this allowed? What right do unidentified and unwanted businesses and individuals have to accost us? Yes, everyone in our democracy has the right to express themselves and try to convince us of their position or product. But we should have a right to not listen.

Government should require any U.S. Postal Service mail or email or phone call to identify the sender's name and address, and who they are representing. Then we can decide whether to receive their 'information.” If they bully us, we can use this information to complain on their conduct.
