On Nov. 7, please join me in voting to re-elect Pauline Taylor for District A. Over the past eight years, I have had the pleasure to serve with Pauline on the Iowa City City Council. Much has been said about how Pauline's practice as a nurse has informed her work on the City Council. She is indeed an extraordinary listener, deeply and genuinely sympathetic to the concerns and well-being of Iowa City in its entirety, including the natural ecology and urban forest.
This sense of sympathy has been particularly notable in Pauline's sensitivity to the impacts of development on the surrounding context. For example, her vote in opposition of the Hickory Hill Estates project ultimately led to the significant expansion of Hickory Hill Park, one of Iowa City's most important sanctuaries for all of nature's beings.
Pauline's thoughtful, deliberative actions on the City Council over the last eight years give me confidence in her ability to balance change with continuity, address the pressing needs for deep housing affordability and better health and well-being for all, and promote a better relationship among ourselves and within nature's limits.
