Rathje brings business sense to Washington
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Steve Rathje is running for U.S. Congress in District 1. I know Rathje will be an outstanding congressman because as a successful businessman he knows what it takes to create jobs for Americans by bringing back jobs outsourced for the past 20 years. He shares the same values I see as critical to get our economy growing by reducing the size of government, and he would not support measures that put us deeper in debt and saddle our future generations with debt that can't be repaid.
We need someone who can get people working in well-paying jobs and not just hear that the government is “creating” jobs. It is time to have someone who will champion what is most on the hearts and minds of the citizens of Iowa, and that is jobs and the economy. Rathje has a plan on how to implement these ideas, which embraces fairness, immediacy and transparency to get dollars into the people's hands to get this economy growing again. He understands that private business is what fuels this nation's economy; government “jobs” do not since they do not ever produce a product.
We have had politicians in Washington far too long. Let's send a good, common-sense, honest man to Washington in 2012 and let him put his real experience to work for us for real jobs. It is time to elect someone who truly cares for the people and who will work at being their representative. Rathje can do just that.
