Put Social Security back in the lockbox
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 27, 2011 11:10 pm
President Obama appointed a commission to fix Social Security. The conclusion was that several things could be done, such as raise the contribution rate, change the retirement age, raise the limit on income taxed and put limits on higher income people.
So what did he do? He supported cutting the Social Security tax rate this year and now next year. Why is Congress letting him destroy Social Security? The angle again is to replace the funds with money from elsewhere.
We are tired of this switching tax scheme from one source to another. The bottom line is it always results in more money going to the government. Keep Social Security as a single tax so we can keep track of what you are doing with it.
Obama likes to copy other presidents. Pretend you are Franklin Roosevelt and put Social Security back in the lockbox.
