Put partisanship aside in fixing U.S. debt crisis
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 6, 2011 11:33 am
Politics as usual will not solve the problems facing our government debt and obligations. We are operating in crisis mode with a slapdash approach.
Thoughtful, well-researched solutions have been offered by a bipartisan commission. I urge everyone to study the Simpson-Bowles commission (officially, the 2010 National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform plan, which the commission produced but did not formally endorse, falling three votes short). It should be looked at by all who are interested in long-term solutions for putting our country back on track. Please urge your friends to do the same.
We must set aside our political ideologies to solve this problem.
These past ugly weeks in Congress were damaging to everyone!
But, I still hold out hope that we can come to our senses as a country and unite around doing what is most helpful in these very challenging times. We need to support our leaders in making sensible choices that are right for our future.
