Put down distractions and drive safely
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Nov. 15, 2011 12:20 pm
Please pass this letter on to the aggressive drivers in your lives. It's not that I think they can't read, but I believe they don't read.
Back to the subject at hand. Grab your mobile computer/phone, drink of choice and snack or meal of choice. Now put them down! Back in the console, back in the cupholder and back in the bag. These are distractions you as motorists have control over, but when you make the choice to distract yourself, you, yes, you put every other person you share the roads with at risk.
It isn't much better for those who choose to be an aggressive driver. Acting as though every stoplight is a National Hot Rod Association starting light and every pack of traffic must be drafted as though it's part of a NASCAR race. You the motorist can choose to be responsible and courteous or to be a horrendous threat to the safety of every motorist out there.
I see all of these behaviors every day. I make my living as a professional driver and choose to be as safe as I can be. To those who don't, stop behaving as though you don't care if you kill people.
