Public health depends on all of us to work together

In August when the derecho hit, Iowans came together to help one another clear debris, replenish food supplies, and get our neighbors back on their feet. Now, we once again need Iowans to come together to help one another out.

COVID -9 is hitting our state incredibly hard and our own health and the health of our neighbors depends on those around us. We must take care of ourselves, but we must also take care of others. Our schools, communities, businesses and homes are safer and healthier when we come together and work together by wearing masks, remaining socially distant, and staying home when not working.

We have watched and waited for our governor to enact meaningful measures to mitigate COVID in our state, and she has not done so; until just recently. But there are many loopholes to wearing masks properly in the governor's proclamation. It is now up to us to protect one another and assist one another as we did earlier this summer during the derecho. We must work together if we want to succeed and limit exposures and deaths in our community.
