Public deserves more information from IC school district

More information is needed in order to make an informed decision about the Iowa City school district's revenue purpose statement. A significant amount of data from consultants about building needs and capacities won't be ready until April. Administrative staff has said in presentations that they would like to earmark $30 million for renovations and improvements, and they have yet to produce a list.
On Dec. 4, a working draft was presented with earmarks for potential renovations (no specific projects listed), additions, and new schools with no guarantees of completion. According to the superintendent, each building has been walked through by the district's skilled tradesman, as well as each principal, compiling a list of needs and wants for their school. Why not publish this list of potential projects?
When asked what projects they would like to do first, the answer is the same: HVAC upgrades. But for which school(s)?. What about leaking roofs, plumbing, ADA compliance issues, and storage space for supplies? HVAC is a concern in the east and southeast side, is that just a carrot being dangled in front of the voters?
The same thing could be said for the third comprehensive high school in the north corridor, which district officials admitted that even if it was built they couldn't afford to open. Without supporting documentation, little has been shown to the public, and the mantra from the district is “just trust us.”
