Pride runs deep in veteran-filled family
The Gazette Opinion Staff

As we mark Veterans Day today, I am proud to be a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. I am even prouder of the Navy careers of my two older brothers, now deceased, who served during World War II. One was a naval aviator who flew a number of combat missions off the aircraft carrier USS Wasp. The other brother fought battles against the kamikazi aircraft while aboard a destroyer.
My younger brother served with a Navy Early Warning aircraft squadron during the Cold War. Our oldest son was on the USS Ranger during the Vietnam War. Now, his son, our grandson, is a Navy Seabee, having just returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
That makes the Berry family a Navy family and we are proud to serve our country. When you see a veteran, offer him/her your hand and thank them for a job well done.
