Pressure is on Congress to create more jobs
Dec. 2, 2009 11:41 pm
Let the unemployed and underemployed people of Eastern Iowa take heart. I believe that the lean working years, especially for baby boomers, are coming to an end. Here's why.
There is a civil war going on in the United States, Congress versus its own constituents. The midterm congressional delegates are less than a year away. Nationally the rate of unemployment is more than 10 percent. Clearly this is a knife at the throat of any U.S. senator or congressman who hopes to be re-elected next year and they know it.
Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank and other liberals can do one of two things: Do their best to bring hundreds of thousands of jobs back or remain faithful to their principles and go down to defeat, ever loyal to Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. I think that either way, the country would be better off.
Also: In January 2011, the oldest of the baby boomers will turn 65. They will be eligible for full Social Security. This should mean, if not en masse retirement, then certainly a large increase and eventually a labor shortage. To quote Winston Churchill, “Have faith! Have hope! Deliverance is sure!”
