To the editor:
As candidates campaign to become the next Republican nominee for president, let us remember what are the responsibilities of the president and what qualifications the candidate should have for that office.
If elected he or she will be responsible for internal and national security, enforcing the laws passed by the Senate and House of Representatives and preserving the U.S. Constitution. He or she will be held responsible for the economy and the conduct and status of America among the other nations of the world. The successful candidate for the presidency should be likable, honest and trustworthy, have executive experience and be able to get along well with and be able to reach agreements with members of both political parties. While leading the majority in worthwhile projects, he or she must preserve the rights of the minority.
Carly Fiorina, Ben Carson and Scott Walker are the three most qualified candidates running for the Republican nomination. None are career politicians wanting to stay in office forever. All are attractive and not encumbered by prior scandals. All were born in the continental USA to working class parents who were native Americans. All have made major contributions in their individual fields of endeavor by their own hard work. All have worked to unite people and none have been dividers nor have they claimed to be victims of anything or anybody. All have been problem solvers and America has many problems that need to be solved.
