As a Gazette subscriber, I usually enjoy Kurt Ullrich's columns. So I was surprised and a little saddened to read about his dislike of snakes and badgers (“Summer, like time, continues to pass,”July 21).
Iowa's native predators, including snakes and badgers, are essential for healthy natural landscapes. I am grateful for the many Iowans, young and old, who understand that and appreciate what predators do. I'm also grateful to Iowa naturalists and teachers who share the message that Iowa's wild native predators are beautiful, interesting, and valuable animals.
