Portions of health care bill cause for fear
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 21, 2009 12:44 am
Do people really know what is in the health care plan? I do and I don't like it. As I write this, I am holding pages of the United States House proposed plan. On page 16, it states limitations on changes in terms or conditions of private insurance. No changes may be made in your current plan, including co-pay or deductible, once this bill is in effect or you will be assigned a government plan with its doctors. This indeed abolishes private insurance and does not let you keep your doctor.
On page 57, under electronic administrative transactions: “standards shall be authoritative permitting no ... constraints for electronic transactions.” This sounds like the federal government has the ability to go into individual bank accounts.
On page 167, in Section 59B, a Tax on Individuals without Acceptable Health Care Coverage:
“... any time during the taxable year there is hereby imposed a tax equal to 2.5 percent ... .” a fine of possibly $2,500.
I am afraid that the young who do not want to pay for insurance will be dismayed at this.
