Poor decision-making strains Iowa’s energy resources

The Des Moines Register published an article June 1st stating that Iowa may see rolling blackouts this summer due to our inability to generate enough electricity to meet demand. It would appear that Alliant Energy either misled the Iowa Utilities Board in the fall of 2018 when it convinced the board that the 640mw produced by the Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC) was not needed, or their officers are incompetent.
Now our area is faced with the possibility of rolling blackouts as there is not enough power generation. Alliant customers have paid the $110 million to shut DAEC down early and will be paying premium prices for power during high demand or have their power shut off (rationed). Alliant needs to be held to account for their poor planning and decision-making that their customers are now paying for.
