Political ridiculousness to elevate straw poll
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 7, 2011 11:38 am
I recently received an email stating, “On Aug. 13, people from around Iowa will come to Ames and begin the first steps of electing a new president.” This just shows how ridiculous politics has become.
Only a few years ago, the Ames straw poll was laughed at as a harbinger of the Iowa caucuses and election outcomes. Now it has become a serious part of the election process.
I think this demonstrates how the election process is being driven by full-time professionals of the political parties and news media. It is also a serious waste of money. That is why I refuse to contribute to campaigns until the season of ridiculousness is over. The elections are next year.
