Political gridlock pulling our country downward
N/A
Dec. 17, 2010 11:22 pm
Consider a struggling business that is equally owned and operated by two partners. Each of the partners is acutely aware of the need to do something to promote the success of the business. However, any proposal for improvement by either of the partners is immediately vetoed by the other. Would you predict future success for this business?
Likewise, the Republican and Democratic parties are positioned so much at odds with one another that the ideas of either party are immediately greeted with antipathy by the other.
I think we can reasonably assume that neither party has a monopoly on good ideas. Rather, I suspect much of the antipathy is the result of each of the parties' obsession with winning at any cost.
The cost of the resulting gridlock could include the demise of our country as a leader in international affairs, and a further deterioration of our standard of living.
The combatant parties are ignoring what the battle is really all about: insuring the success of our nation and the well-being of its people.
