Political ads are a waste of money

Is it just me or is everybody getting fed up with the political ads that have been going on for what seems like years?
We all know that when this one is over the next one will start. Why aren't we forcing a vote on the ballot to limit ads on TV to two months before the election? This would be enough time for them to get out their qualifications and talk about what they aim to do instead of spending millions bashing the other one thousands of times with the same old ads. This wasted money could be sent to the charities of their choice.
When the time is limited, that dries up the big spending of outsiders taking care of another problem. Give each candidate two months, $1 million and let's see how well they make use of it. That also will tell us something. I know this won't go anywhere, but I feel better.
P.S. My mute button is about wore out.
