Police must enforce all laws equally

In reference to the letter about the girl receiving a ticket for not having up-to-date license tags (“Enforcement of law didn't fit situation,” Dec. 30, by Tim Cunningham): I am wondering how the police department should decide on what laws to enforce and what laws to let go?
Being a senior citizen on a fixed income, I understand how tight money can be. But you let one get away with it, then to be fair, everyone should get away with it. It is too bad she had no one who could have helped her.
