Police chief, state have eyes on speeders
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 5, 2009 12:41 am
I had the misfortune of driving Interstate 380 several times over the last month and observed no slowdown of the motorists. When they approach downtown Cedar Rapids and the 55 mph speed limits, drop the green flag, the race is on.
I decided to contact our new police chief, Greg Graham. My call was transferred to his secretary, a very nice lady. She told me she would give the information to the chief, took my phone number and hung up. I thought, “yeah, he is going to call me.” I was surprised when my phone rang around
3:30 p.m. It was Graham and he assured me he was concerned about the issue and said the Iowa DOT was getting involved. He said other things will be done to try and slow people down. He was informative and showed concern for the problem. I have a lot of respect for the chief and what he has done.
Look out speeders, help is on the way to slow you down.
