To the editor:
I enjoyed reading about the 'Effort to save monarch butterfly takes flight” in the March 3 Gazette.
My husband and I were a bit surprised that they may be considered potentially endangered as we see them quite a lot on our property. We have always encouraged butterflies of all varieties by offering them ‘butterfly weed' - a variety of milkweed - in various places in our yard. We enjoy the vibrant orange flowers, seeing the caterpillars munch on the foliage and eventual butterflies that come from them. We are amazed at how many butterfly types we can spot, including swallowtails, monarchs, moths.
To see how beautiful this plant is, search online and see all the images. Plants are sold many places locally. Enjoy!
