Plagman leads, Washington succeeds
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I attended Washington High School in the late 1960s. We all have seen the rather dramatic transition that the Washington school has undergone regarding the demographics.
Yet Principal Ralph Plagman and his staff have built a remarkable high school that our entire city can be proud of. Plagman has turned Washington into a continually outstanding school that celebrates diversity and achieves great things in all activities as well as academics. He is the Jimmy Stewart character in “It's A Wonderful Life.”
My children attended Washington and the teachers they encountered were extraordinary, and they loved the experiences they had with the students of every imaginable background. We are so fortunate to have Plagman's leadership in education in Cedar Rapids. One person can make a difference and he has.
