Picture of dead cougar in paper embarrassing

The shooting of a cougar south of Marengo and the subsequent picture published in the Dec. 16 Gazette was an affront to all animal lovers. This image of the dead cat being triumphantly displayed is both embarrassing and grotesque.
These magnificent cats are reclusive and avoid interaction with humans. I dare say the number of human deaths and/or injuries attributed to cougars in this state's recorded history would be zero. So, the reason for killing this animal was?
