Permanent solutions needed for security

To the editor:
Clint Bolick, who in 2013 cowrote 'Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution” with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, recently published a column in which he declared that Jeb Bush is pro-immigration, but also pro-law and advocates the principles that the two described in their book.
Those principles are: 1. Congress should write and pass detailed laws that dictate who and how foreigners can immigrate into the USA thereby preventing frequent changes in immigration policies by incoming presidents. 2. Close our southern border with the cooperation of border states and enforced by military. 3. Fingerprint all foreign visitors. 4. Limit immigration to individuals who have been educated in the USA, have no criminal record and possess skills that American businesses need. 5. Allow immigrants who are here illegally to stay, but make them pay all of the taxes that a citizen must pay, but deny them welfare benefits and a path to citizenship. 6. Set up a program whereby unskilled foreign workers can enter the USA to work at temporary seasonal jobs, but go home when their seasonal job has been completed.
Even though Jeb Bush is a liberal politician, his ideas about how to solve the illegal immigration problem make sense. I urge everybody to support candidates who seek ways to permanently secure our borders and keep us safe rather than proposing temporary solutions.
