People have lost control of government
The Gazette Opinion Staff

At age 85, I apologize to younger Americans who have labored, paid their taxes, obeyed our laws and believed that our democratic Republic assumed liberty and opportunity.
We, the dummies of my generation, have permitted our democratic system to be broken. We dummies, by a large majority, opposed a health care bill. Yet, we let Congress get away with passing it. The court approved the law even though it was passed first in the Senate. The law says that all revenue bills must pass the House of Representatives first.
The dummies were 2-to-1 in favor of the Arizona immigration law; the court gutted it. Only those dummies, not in a state of denial, understand that we the people have lost control of our government. People we send to Washington somehow lose their campaign promise and engage in a personal campaign for money and power.
Again, I apologize to younger Americans for the heavy burden dropped on them. Our failure to use the tools provided by our Founding Fathers has resulted in the breakdown of the democratic process. Our ship of state was built to be piloted by a free people.
