Paying daughters ticket shows she is above law

To the writer of the Jan. 5 “I-380 speeding tickets hurting C.R. merchants,” you have a warped sense of responsibility.
You will pay her Cedar Rapids Interstate 380 speeding ticket if she shops in Coralville. You have effectively taught your daughter that it is OK to endanger motorists by speeding, that laws are made for ‘other' people and that she is not responsible for her own actions.
Gee, I wonder what is wrong with our society. How do you transfer blame to the ticket issuers? I saw no mention that she ‘wasn't' speeding. She now knows that she can break the law and Daddy will take care of it.
Several years ago, my college student daughter received a speeding ticket. Although she struggled to do so, she paid the fine without any help from her parents. She knew she messed up and she alone was responsible. To this day she has never been cited for another moving violation and she admits she has never forgotten that ticket.
As for telling the ‘father approved' lead-footed driver to shop in Coralville, I'd say Cedar Rapids wins, hands down.
