In the Friday March 15 Gazette (6A) Iowa's congressional campaigns were covered. Mike Huckabee, former governor and presidential candidate endorsed Iowa 1st District congressional candidate David Pautsch. Huckabee said in his endorsement that Pautsch can "help save America from the oppression that has destroyed our constitutional liberties, national security, economy, schools, law and order, small businesses and families."
Dear God, please, just stop! Where in the world does Mike Huckabee live? Where in America is life that bleak? What cave has he been living in and what dark information sources is he following that only the "oppression that has destroyed" us is the experience you are having.
These two men have a pulpit, one of them literally, so they should please use their position and their pulpit to celebrate some of our country's successes, ideals and values, even though we haven't realized all of them fully. At the very least they should go for walk down any Iowa sidewalk in any Iowa town and celebrate our freedoms, our diverse people, and the beautiful places in our country. But, please, for God's sake, for the sake of America, use your pulpits differently. Fear is not an answer to America's issues. Please, just stop!
