Pass on protest on abortion restrictions
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jul. 20, 2013 12:39 pm
As a public, but individual, protest regarding the restrictive abortion legislation passed by the state of Texas and the attacks and restrictions on reproductive rights by current state and federal office holders and prospective office holders, I propose the following: Everyone start stockpiling Plan B pills and condoms and hand them out for Labor Day, Halloween, Veterans Day, Hanukkah, Christmas, New Year's Eve, Super Bowl, Chinese or Lunar New Year, Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, and especially Valentine's Day.
Don't forget about St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Passover, International Worker's Day, also known as May Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, Juneteenth Day (slaves in Texas finally get word that slavery has been abolished), June 27 (Emma Goldman's birthday), Fourth of July, Sept. 14 (Margaret Sanger's birthday), Min Chueh Chang and Gregory Pincus (co-developers of the combined oral contraception pill - you choose the date), and your own birthday.
There are many more days that you may celebrate, so choose those days as well. I have omitted Constitution Day because most government office holders in all branches of government have eviscerated the Constitution until there is little of it left to celebrate.
