Partisan pride killing health care reform
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 2, 2009 12:38 am
If, as Charles Krauthammer says in his July 26 column, support for President Barack Obama's plan for health care reform is sinking, it is because all it takes to possibly stop something that 80 percent of the public wants are two thing: invoke partisan pride, so that the conservatives and Republicans will reflexively oppose whatever it is, make up a bunch of scary-sounding baloney, much of it provided by the insurance companies themselves, and get friendly TV hosts and newspaper columnists like Krauthammer to repeat the same phrases and statistics a hundred times a day.
The GOP goal is to kill health care reform outright and their strategists are saying as much.
