To the editor:
I am writing on behalf of NAMI Johnson County to thank the Iowa City and larger community for supporting our 11th annual NAMIWalks on April 25.
Every journey begins with that first step. Since our first walk in 2004 we have made this public display of support for people affected by mental illness. Our goal is to change how Americans view people with a mental illness and how people with mental illness view themselves. The funds we raise ensure that help and hope are available for those in need.
Specifically we want to thank our honorary chair, author and advocate Zach Wahls. We thank our NAMI staff, NAMI fundraising committee and many volunteers. We thank our sponsors and donors. We thank our team captains and all our walkers. We were especially grateful for the good turnout despite the cold, wet weather.
As our NAMIWalks T-shirt says, 'never under estimate your ability to make someone's life better.” Congratulations to a bunch of walk stars.
