Parking policy would discourage shoppers

Regarding the Dec. 2 letter, “Cedar Rapids ‘green' parking rule shuns visitors,” I agree. This is discrimination against the people who do not have the money to spend on hybrid cars. I know the city is trying to encourage people to use more fuel-efficient cars, but in today's economy not everyone has the money to go green.
I also agree that this policy may discourage people from shopping downtown, attending concerts or tournaments. We need to be encouraging more people to visit Cedar Rapids. Government shouldn't stick its nose into everything we do, say or where we can park.
