Parable is ancient Chinese proverb

I enjoyed reading the story about the work that is being done by Gospel Tabernacle Church in Cedar Rapids ('The good Gospel,” June 14). By helping others they are living according to the teachings of Jesus.
However, the parable attributed to Jesus in the first paragraph of the story is not found in the Bible.
The saying that if you give a man a fish you stop him from going hungry for a day, but if you teach him to fish you stop him from going hungry for a lifetime is an ancient Chinese proverb.
