I want to thank Georgia Sysouchanh, her organizers, and her army of volunteers that helped make the Flaughless 5K held in Vinton on Oct. 27 such a huge success and beautiful event!
The Flaughless 5K honored the life of Dan Flaugh, a lifelong Vinton resident and former U.S. Army soldier who served in Iraq and died last December, just a few years after he was discharged from the military.
I had the unique and amazing opportunity to serve as the official event photographer and was truly amazed by not only the sheer number of participants but the overwhelming outpouring of love and support shown for a soldier who proudly served his country and left us much too soon.
Flaughless 5K raised an unbelievable $10,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project thanks to the more than 500 people that came out and took part in the event - including dozens who didn't even know Dan but wanted to show their support to his family and friends.
If you didn't get to take part in this year's Flaughless 5K, I highly encourage you to take part in it next year. It was a memorable event and one that I will never forget. Learn more about Dan and the event by visiting http://www.flaughless.com/.
