Our justice system can handle terrorists
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Mar. 29, 2010 12:44 am
Who are these hacks saying terrorists don't deserve Miranda rights? Are they American? Do they mistrust our judicial system so much that they think it can't handle these religious underwear-bombing fanatics? Is our main goal revenge or is it to hold people accountable for their actions? Are we a people who believe in our society or do we allow others to change us? When did we decide to give these cowards control over how we do things?
The ideas and laws we have in place are there specifically to show these people how awful they are, and we have a great legal system to do it. Are we shakin' in our boots to give these guys a trial? A terrorist who was brought to justice and shown to the world for the joke he is was Richard “the shoe bomber” Reid. Was that some liberal court conspiracy? No, it was George Bush and Dick Cheney who let the system work. Cheney must think Reid should have been waterboarded since he's now saying Obama is soft on terrorism by giving him a trial just like they did.
Let the system work. Do we give in to the fear mongering of the past administration or do we believe in the fundamental process that has always been part of this country? Let's show the world what real democracy looks like, especially when dealing with those who want to kill us.
