Our elections don’t reveal the will of the people

There is an election on the horizon. We may be in a mesmerizing fog and not realize approaching concerns. Our politics promise everything will get better, maybe not. It's time to understand what lies ahead.

First, the U.S. Senate outcome should be the focus of what's to come. A Democrat winning the White House with the Republican Senate will be business as usual. In other words: a stalemate. Promises made to be elected will evaporate. A Republican president is a no-change event.

Secondly, there is an Electoral College that may be a repeat of two other elections in the past election cycles. Not only has the loser of the popular vote won two out of the last five presidential elections, but come November, they may win a third. We have an electoral system that makes it hard to predict the will of the majority.

Being the most popular is not always the road to success.
