Ordinance vote is about upholding the law

As a lifelong resident of Iowa City, I would like to encourage my fellow residents to vote “no” on Nov. 2 to repealing the 21-only bar ordinance. It is not an issue of legislating morality. It is about upholding the law.
The drinking age in Iowa is 21. The bar owners insist that they monitor those under 21 to make it a safe environment, but if that is the case, why are they also saying that their businesses will suffer greatly without the “under 21” business? It's time to do the right thing for our community and its residents.
I love Iowa City, especially in the fall when the university students come to town. They help keep our city youthful and vibrant. Let's give them some viable alternatives to underage drinking.
