Options closure would be leap backward
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 15, 2013 3:23 pm
I was shocked and dismayed to learn an option for the Options program and facility may be closure. That would be one significant leap backward in terms of our commitment to the mentally handicapped and others that are disadvantaged in our community. This would include those who are autistic and their families.
We hear terms such as mandates, budgets, money, regulations, and other political jargon as reasons for neglecting one of the finest facilities of its kind in the nation. Pure hogwash! Parents, families and others who really care about the poor, the hungry, the outcasts and the mentally handicapped and yes, the autistic, please unite to elect representatives who will change laws, provide funding, scrap mandates, and implement programs which are humane and necessary to provide the services and facilities and programs at Options and other programs in Iowa.
I am tired of the excuses and apathy shown by politicians, and yes, many citizens, when it comes to “doing what's right” in our community and our state. Get informed, get passionate, and get out the vote for those who are on our side.
