Dave Doyle's letter to the editor, "Expand editorial page to carry both sides," published July 18 was right on.
Pew Research indicates that eight in 10 American adults said they get different facts depending on where they turn to for news.
If people only read The Gazette and the Des Moines Register and don’t seek out the other side of news articles (which most won’t), they will believe in that one side of the story.
Reporters are to conduct interviews and report the news for presentation through the media. It used to be that they worked hard to get to the bottom of a story and not just skim off the top to present their biased view. There is so much news out there those reporters and thus the media are not covering.
All of us have a right to hear both sides of a story and let us make up our mind what we believe. It might surprise some to know that newspapers and media would be looked at more favorably if given a choice, rather than implanting ideas that readers are not to question. That’s repression.
I have considered dropping The Gazette several times because of bias, but I guess a desire to get the local news and a hope that The Gazette will change their ways has been predominant. How long that will happen, I am not sure.
Don’t scrap the opinion pages. Those opinions are what is keeping some of your loyal subscribers reading.
